Drug UsesDiflucan is an anti-fungal antibiotic used at treatment of candidiasis of different organs including genital area.
How to useYou should use Diflucan according to prescriptions and references of your treating doctor. Before medicine use, attentively familiarise with the instruction for dosage definition.
Diflucan is taken orally together with meal or without it. For definitive recover pass a complete course of treatment with Diflucan. Even if you have felt better in some days, continue to take a medicine as improvement can be temporary.
To clear up your infection completely, take Diflucan for the full course of treatment. Keep taking it even if you feel better in a few days. Do not miss any doses.
The best effect at treatment with Diflucan is reached at daily regular reception at the same time.
Drug Class and MechanismDiflucan is an antifungal antibiotic which destroys sensitive fungi, interfering with formation of a fungic cellular membrane that leads to cell destruction.
Missed DoseIn case you have missed intake of Diflucan, take it as soon as possible. If this time has coincided with regular intake, it is necessary to skip it and return to a regular schedule of intake. It is not recommended to take more than 1 dose.
StorageStorage of Diflucan should be carried out at temperature below 86 degrees by Farenheit (30 degrees) out of reach from light and humidity. Do not allow freezing.
Warnings/PrecautionsDo not use Diflucan if:
- you have an allergy to any of components of Diflucan
- you are taking astemizole, an aldosterone blocker (eg, eplerenone), cisapride, an ergot alkaloid (eg, ergotamine), erythromycin, pimozide, a serotonin (5-HT1) receptor agonist (eg, eletriptan), or terfenadine
Consult with your attending physician in cases:
- if you are pregnant, schedule to become pregnant, or brest-feeding
- if you have the weakened immune system, illness of kidneys, liver disease, or tachycardia
It is necessary to take Diflucan with caution if you take following drugs:
- Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), benzodiazepines (eg, alprazolam), buspirone, carbamazepine, cyclophosphamide, cyclosporine, ergot alkaloids (eg, ergotamine), haloperidol, HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors or "statins" (eg, simvastatin), hydantoins (eg, phenytoin), methadone, muscarinic antagonists (eg, solifenacin, tolterodine), narcotics (eg, codeine), ramelteon, sulfonylureas (eg, glipizide), theophylline, or tricyclic antidepressants (eg, amitriptyline) because the risk of their side effects may be increased by Diflucan.
- Macrolide immunosuppressants (eg, tacrolimus) because the risk of kidney problems may be increased.
- Rifabutin because the risk of certain eye problems (eg, uveitis) may be increased.
- Rifampin or proton pump inhibitors (eg, omeprazole) because they may decrease Diflucan ' s effectiveness.
- Aldosterone blockers (eg, eplerenone), amiodarone, astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, serotonin receptor agonists (eg, eletriptan), macrolide antibiotics (eg, erythromycin), quinolines (eg, ciprofloxacin), or terfenadine because the risk of severe irregular heartbeat (eg, QT prolongation) may be increased.
Possible Side EffectsIf some of these MOST WIDESPREAD side effects happen more often than usual, refer to your attending physician:
- mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhoeia, or upset stomach;
- headache;
- dizziness;
- unusual or unpleasant taste in your mouth;
- skin rash or itching.
